God... All talk?

I think everyone is familiar with the type of person that loves to talk... and talk... and TALK.

Well, the next time you roll your eyes (in your mind) with a patronizing smile on your face while listening to a talker.  Be reminded that God is a talker that doesn't shut up.

Think about it... When you read the creation story in Genesis its like God made stuff just to talk too.  And of ALL that he created the only things made in him image can talk.  Trees can't do it, birds can't do it, bees can't do it.. not cat, nor dog or fleas.

But look at the power of spoken word... it has the ability to inspire, instruct  and guide.  It can build relationships and set boundaries.  It can summon help or call for trouble.  Even muzzled in silence our ability to speak, speaks loudly.

So what is our responsibility with this Godly trait?  I say it is to be like God and talk, and talk, and talk.  But if we really talk like God taks, we should have a lot to show for all the talking... just like our God does.

What is old is new... again.

The Bible is such an awesome and beautiful tool with rich application for understanding and relating to our God and with one another.  But we must not forget that God existed before written scripture and that the God of Abraham still wants to commune with us.
Is this admonishment an attempt to deemphasize scripture?  NO!  Not at all, but it is a reminder that the letter alone kills but the spirit makes alive.  Be reminded that within biblical text we are challenged to be living epistles read of men.  Jesus Christ who was the living word has past the Christness on to us, calling for us to rise up to live as God's word made flesh.
Legalism calls this relationship obedience to commands but those in love with God call it the joy that is our strength, our reasonable service, our meat and our renewing.
To learn how much God loves us and to fulfill his loving wishes for us, is to become the heros mentioned in Hebrews 11.  We become the new "men of old" earning a good report and are the NEW New Testament.

LOVE WINS by Rob Bell

Just finished the book Love Wins.  I highly recommend it for those who feel a call to Connectionism.  The book challenges fundamentalist perspective that seeks to take the letter of the Bible literally rather than studying it as inspired writings offered to inspire living.

I believe this book is the alarm to awaken the Connectionism movement and to stir Huemanity Unlimited.  But the heart of both is that we can't do it alone.  We need people like you.

Let's change the world by offering everyone who wants to accept Jesus Christ the reason too.

So read the book and pray... what do you hear the Spirit speaking to your heart as you read this... PLEASE SHARE.

Faith like Evolution

Faith, like evolution, is the opportunity to transform what you are into who you choose to be.

Zero Sum Heart

Forgive us our debts and we forgive our debtors...
Simple phrase but a serious challenge.

Rather than a fiscal ideology, consider it a challenge to your heart.
Owe nothing even as you free those that owe you.

I've learned to lend only what I can afford to give so when I walk away there is no measure for resentment as the recipient of that trust proves their character. And When I have a debt that I cannot pay, I've learned not to run and hide but rather ask pardon... Or better yet ask how to make amends...

But the whole forgive even as I receive forgiveness is a zero sum challenge that is most important in process of loving God and my nieghbor as myself. It also extremely impactful to building healthy family relationships and sustaining connection.

Waiting on an apology can leave a wound in your soul unhealed and septic when all it would take for healing is to let it go and let what they owe go to zero.
Dreams that have been buried can be resurrected when the balance of fear or disappointment deposited by failure are withdrawn.
Everything that your loved one isn't but should be...
All that you should be but are not...
Leave it all to the thief of night and wake up with full account of grace and mercy to live as you choose while you free others to be who they choose.

time?

Is it time yet.... ?

Time for a faith system for people who have issues and aren't afraid to admit it?

Connectionism is waiting.

Waiting for you to refuse to be afraid of change
and to find the courage to
turn from the idols of what was, modeled by the traditions and instructions given by God, like Manna... for its day
to sustain people who trusted Him
people dependent so much on His provision that they dare not hold on to what he gave yesterday

Time for fresh bread?

Connectionism...?
Let the ancient question ring once again... "What is it?"

Honorable Truth

If you are reading this chances are you are old enough to have experienced tragic hate and conflict that religion can produce.
You may be jaded by all the inconsistencies or indoctrinated to the point that even the most obvious doctrinal contradictions make sense to you without question.

But if you are sane and humble enough to admit it, you probably believe there is either more... or nothing more to what humanity has debated for thousands of years....
God?  No God?  Which God?  Why God?  What God?

Could this age old debate be resolved with a honest attempt at answering "what for...?"

Believing in God is for what?  God existing is for for what?  Humanity seeking connection to God is for what?  Equating God to LOVE is for what?

Ummm prolly not going to resolve the addiction to friction over the fact and fiction of God.  But there is truth worth noting... honorable truth:

We are connected and it may be for a reason. We are more alike than different and that may be for a reason.  We have untapped potential, probably for a reason.  You are reading this... yep, for some reason.

Maybe the reason is what God is for.
Maybe the reason is to prove that God is for you.

Faithful Skeptic

Am I supposed to believe a faith system based on a God that makes all things new should change so little?
Am I supposed to believe that those that have "found God" have no need of searching?
Am I supposed to believe the gospel of a victorious savior is intended to leave me in constant need of rescue or saved?
Am I supposed to believe that I should be doing more of what could never be enough?
Am I supposed to believe that requirements forever fulfilled still obligate me?
Am I supposed to believe in a perfect creator that makes messed up stuff?

I believe but help my unbelief...

Spiritual Technology

Skepticism and debates about the value and validity of biblical scripture are prevalent and seem to be becoming increasingly popular.  Our hope is that we can cause a fresh perspective of the Bible to reveal a universal relevance without compromise of the Christ message.

Just like scientific theory that is based on studies and historical human accounts, it's time for mankind to tap into the Bible's accounts of the potential for "spiritual technology".  More than mysticism, magic and mystery; the isness of God exists to be known, related with and connected too.  But according to the account in scripture, if God is the same as in the beginning, His primary goal is the provision for His children - you and me.  Like every parent created in the image of God, the parental instinct is a reflection of what spiritual technology should produce: NATURAL and SUPERNATURAL PROVISION for every need in the human experience.

Peace for fear, healing for sickness, hope of despair, joy for sorrow, eternal life for death...etc

But the process of developing the spiritual technology necessary to produce these results seems to require: humility, hunger and confidence in a promise from God.

The following is a great example of a scriptural precedent for tapping into supernatural provision.

Deuteronomy 8:3-4 (New International Version, ©2011)

3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. 4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.

Matthew 4:4 (New International Version, ©2011)

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[a]

Do you value the eternal?

Everything we see fades. Everything that we see is subject to decay... corrosion and the destruction of time.  But the invisible can live forever... love, hate, affirmations, encouragement discouragement, and faith are concepts that live beyond us as a human legacy.

How often do material and unimportant urgencies keep you from investing in eternal things?  What kind of legacy are you building?

Christian does NOT EQUAL Christ-like

If you've met more than a few Christians and you know the story of the man who inspired the root word "christ" you probably have noticed at least the following two things:

1.  Not all "christians" are equal.

2. Most don't resemble the nature of the person whose name they claim.

We challenge you not to be discouraged in finding the truth in the gospel of Christ and benefits of the wisdom truths that the Bible offers.  The Bible was not intended to be worshiped NOR FEARED.  But rather it is a divine tool to empower more than inspire with the Christ Concept as articulated in the life of the man called Jesus.

Check out the Christ Concept as a means of connecting with God, yourself and others in a love connection that you will find to be unparalleled.  Fully Human yet ONE in harmony with GOD.  This is the Christ Concept... this is Connectionism, what it means to be spiritually connected... this is Huemanity Unlimited.

Christianity for all or Christ for all?

Has Christianity become a graven image of God?  Is "Christianity"now a social class, title or group rather than a identity or movement?

Our society has taught us to put things into titles like categorial boxes that are rarely accurate and always divisive.  Titles like Black, White, Straight, Gay, Democrat, and Republican. Titles that do not adequately or accurately define identity, purpose or cause.

If a believer does not claim the title Christian would that void the power of believing the gospel?

What would it look like if a Muslim or Buddhist believed the gospel of Jesus Christ but maintained their cultural traditions?  What would a "Christian" Muslim look like... or a Buddhist "Christian"? If your first thought is, "that's impossible" ask yourself why and then go study scripture and history.  After you get past cliches like "you can't serve to masters"(which is not addressing this issue), reconcile the fact that the practice of Christianity has been influenced by heathen traditions and pagan kings.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ was given to fulfill the law, re-establish our love connection with the father, others and ourselves.  Is this still the purpose, or does God just want us to promote a brand called Christianity?

Doesn't a rose by any other name smell as sweet?

Why has terminology become sacred rather than the mission.

Humanity You Have A Father!

Darwinism is amazing.  The thought that chaos can randomly produce a system of order which would spontaneously combust into humanity isn't realistic even by scientific statistics, yet many choose to believe that we don't have a father.

Then there are those who devalue diversity so much that the distinctive male reference of "father" is offensive.  They miss the message not realizing that male does NOT inherently devalue female any more than Ying devalues Yang.  The reference of God as father is a reference honoring the process of procreation and gives us reference of our spiritual genetics.

We were all created to be God's SONs.  Not because God devalues the female gender, but because we possess the potency of our father when (and if) we mature.

Humanity, God is our father. Huemans, Our Father is God.

what's important?

Galatians 5:1-6

1 So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
2 Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3 I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. 4 For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.
5 But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us. 6 For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

Courage for Contradiction

One of the problems people have with believing in God is the contradiction of an ALL POWERFUL God that is CONSTRAINED or the concept of a God who IS LOVE allowing the capacity for evil that is in the world.  That thought process seems founded on the lofty assumption that mankind has the capacity to understand what it means to be "God".   A true in-dept understanding of GOD or Godness seems highly allusive if that understanding is based on the comparison to the things that humanity typically "worships" as God.

Why do we so desperately long to worship what we are not... or what we don't have... or what we can't keep?  Why is a God who is like us, who loves us and actually gets us so unappealing to the masses.

An anthropomorphic God is more than an attempt to relate to what we can't possibly understand beyond a personal experience or the capacity to believe without experience.  If God is real, there MUST be a part of God in us and a part of us in God.  But God must be more.  More than a intangible, invisible person...but WHAT?

This is the true challenge of faith; to believe in God without needing to reconcile the contradictions of our existence in the world that "God made".  Why is the concept of an entity that is absent of contradiction so alluring?  Would any all "good" being  be able understand us?  How could we EVER understand it?

The only way we can explore the God around us and in us is when we have the courage for contradiction.  And there is no place with any greater contradiction than the human soul.  Our soul, the result of an eternal spirit being intertwined and muddled with a mortal body, a limited perspective and a finite experience of an infinite existence... what a contradiction.

Considering this, maybe acknowledging God inside your heart is a great place to begin the expedition of seeking God.

Take courage.

the Controversy of Connection

The Bible presents the human body as the image of how those who believe in Christ should be connected.

The interesting thing about the body is that it is comprised of distinctively different parts.  Each member of  the body is like a distinctive community of cells and tissue that has few if any equals.  Every member, though different, has a role to play and something to contribute to the body.

Considering how the human body is composed, how beneficial to the body would it be if each member had the power to judge the other and bully another body part into becoming homogeneous? What happen if the eye could force the heart to look and behave like an eye.  Or if an ear had the power to make your nose hear at the expense of the sense of smell.  And on, and on... each member declaring the superiority of their function while devaluing the distinctive uniqueness of the other parts.

A body could not survive under these conditions, yet so many who claim to be part of the body of Christ support this practice proudly.  This is why Huemanity Unilimited exists, to promote Connectionism, a movement towards unity within the body of Christ (aka the communities of believers). Until we all come into the unity of the faith ("connect").

Yes, there are MANY good reason to argue and fight.... but BLESSED are the peace makers for THEY shall be called the children of GOD.

Currently, one of the greatest challenges to "the unity of the faith" is the issue of homosexuality.  Could it be that some communities within the body are legitimately called to embrace people living out the GBL experience while some others are legitimately called to reject it WHILE both being legitimately part of the body?

Morality vs Humanity

Have recently noticed attacks on the Bible as a "moral" authority and they inspired this thought:

Does the Bible claim that it's purpose is to set standards of "morality" or does it present itself as simply a tool to help us fulfill the purpose of our humanity?

We Fall Down but we Wake Up

The Bible's account of "the Fall" of mankind presents the origin of the innate perspective by which humans judge the legitimacy of our connections. After eating the fruit of the tree of the "knowledge of good and evil" it seems that all human perspective was tainted with an artificial intelligence causing us to make judgments, accept truths and create rules that weren't given by God.

Christ was born with the mindset that God intend for all of humanity and offered his life to share the awakening to our connection to God and one another.

It is easy to FALL into the mindset that we are on our own in life and that we are alone in the world.  But if you are reading this, this is your alarm to WAKE you to the truth. Please don't hit the snooze button.

Heart of Connectionism

At the heart of Connectionism is the belief that God is (and has always been) in connection to all mankind and is a part of EVERYthing that exists in our conscious and unconscious experience as well as known and unknown reality.

We also believe that mankind was created for connection with God and to others.  Humanity can only reach its greatest potential CONNECTED in COMMUNITY.

The commandment to love God and our neighbor as our self is a commandment of connection.  If this is the greatest commandment, isn't connection the point?

Crazy Idea

If Jesus was God trying to awaken mankind to the Christ Concept (aka "sonship") AND if that message is that what Christ is, we ARE... then what?

Spiritual Research

What have you tried in an effort to tap into the God presence in you and around you?
Why not try?  Test and see... seek your own supernatural experience of tapping into the spirit.

How? Try the following, but not as an act to be accepted by people or God but just to experience your own real connection with your spiritual source.

Try praying. Simply acknowledge God during some quiet time alone and speak your heart.  If you are a little to jaded from all the misrepresentations of God to be sincere in praying to "God" (the old white haired guy in the sky), then verbally call out to know the unknown God or your ETERNAL SOURCE.

Try fasting.  Simply set some healthy constraints on your eating with a focus of experiencing a supernatural expression of love, peace and joy.

Try open and honest conversation. Don't be afraid to talk to people about your God experience or spiritual life.  HOWEVER also be BOLD enough to end the conversation when it seem to take an unhealthy or negative turn.  Don't waste time with arguing or debates.

Try anonymous acts of kindness.

Try giving sacrificially.  Give up something you enjoy or value to contribute to the well being of someone else (EVEN IF IT SEEMS THAT PERSON IS BETTER OFF THAN YOU).

Just try any or all of these 5 things and observe, note and share your experience with us.

PERFECT religion?

What would be the PERFECT religion?

If you were God and mankind was your offspring what rules would you set as a divine parent?

Friday, February 11, 2011

Who needs another religion?

The first definition of "religion" as listed by Dictionary.com:

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Does the world need another religion... Do we need another reason to debate, to judge or to hate.  In uncertain times with economic instability, political mayhem, social unrest, widespread disease  and pandemic apathy what do we need; more to believe in or more to doubt?

Honestly, "religion" may have earned a bad rap but practically speaking doing things "religiously" is important to the integrity of human society.  Imagine an employee that only shows up to work sporadically and not religiously.  Or a relationship without the ritual of religiously communicating (both verbally and sexually).

Yes its true,... There are so many annoying if not dangerous attributes of religion that it's masses of devoted slaves seem to happily endure at the expense of humanity.  But before we through this baby out with the dirty diaper... is there any aspect of having a standard that has value.  Is there any redeemable value in the concept that there is something more to us than us.  Ok, for the intellectual it may be hard to swallow that the force that is the canvas of all reality has a personality...but wouldn't it be cool if it did? And if it did, making nice with it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Whether we call it "religion", "faith", "belief system", "opinion" or "mantra"; Human beings are gonna have them until we evolve to the point where we no longer have butt holes.  So why not find a way to live with them in a way that doesn't make the world (or media airways) a cesspool.

For all those that hate the intolerance of religion... how 'bout a little tolerance.  We'd love to have your intellect help us explore the positive potential of faith.

Spirituality Basics

The objective of ALL spiritual truth is encapsulated in the greatest commandment or spiritual law referenced by Jesus Christ: Love God, Love your neighbor, as you Love yourself.

Practically speaking, human "spirituality" is system of natural and supernatural principles that govern the 3 primary types of human Connections:
1. the invisible, intangible, yet real connection that we have to God
2. the invisible, intangible community connection we have with others (and the world around us)
3. the invisible, intangible connection we have with our physical bodies and personal identity (self)

Christ's "Law of Love" is the key to mastery of these connections. However, the challenge to fulfilling of this "Law of love" is power of the "sin" concept.

The consideration of the "sin" concept provokes the discussion of right and wrong. This discussion is an important endeavor of loving God, neighbor and self.  A healthy discussion should lead to mutual understanding and greater harmony.  Unfortunately, the concept of sin is one that isn't naturally easy or comfortable to address.  The solution is the Christ Concept.  The difficulty is the guilt, shame, offense and the defensiveness that are natural reactions to typical understanding of sin as the indictment of human weakness and frailty.  The Christ Concept offers conviction that can lead to change rather than condemnation that only produces shame and separation.

Through the mindset of the Christ Concept "sin" can be considered, addressed and once this concept is understood and believed sin is overcome to produce a consciousness in harmony with God, "neighbors" and self.  This consciousness lived out produces righteousness, peace and joy as intend in the design of mankind's purpose: Connection.

Overcoming sin (or overcoming evil with good) is such an important human responsibility because of the true power and detriment of sin is its negative impact on the connection that is inherent with human experience.

Think of sin as this: Anything that causes a perceived or real RIGHT to live as if we are not CONNECTED.
